CSU – Hughes Stadium

BCER provided fire protection engineering and life safety consulting services for the Colorado State Stadium located in Fort Collings. The stadium is a multiuse facility for CSU Athletics that includes a new Alumni Center and state-of-the-art classrooms in addition to the 41,200 stadium seats. BCER initially performed a 3rd party review of the fire protection and life safety systems for the Authority Having Jurisdiction. As the project progressed we were retained by the General Contractor to provide additional consulting services to help address unique design and constructability challenges. Our work included a review of structural fire protection assemblies and the development of engineering judgments and alternative means and methods for solutions to the dynamic and challenging construction conditions. Acting as special inspector, we reviewed the installation of all the exterior slab edge fireproofing, ensuring the floor fire ratings were maintained. We provided guidance for the use of foam insulation within the exterior metal panel system of the building, ensuring that the flame and smoke spread limitations were maintained with the use of alternative products. The broad knowledge of our fire protection and life safety team, combined with the ability to keep pace with the demanding schedule helped to ensure an on-time completion of the project.
