This past Sunday, August 23, 2015 we had the opportunity to see the last ‘play day’ for the 2015 Cheley (Colorado Children’s Hospital) Burn Camp in Estes Park, Colorado. There were 76 campers and dozens of camp councilors and volunteers at the camp this year. The kids and some of the councilors were burn victims from Arizona to Minnesota, participating in this week-long camp. We could tell from the energy of everyone that they had a chance to be a ‘kid’ again. More importantly they got a chance to forget about their horrific injury and see that they were not alone in their challenges towards recovery. Our efforts in 2015 raised over $18,000 for the Children’s Hospital Burn Camp to send these young victims of traumatic burn injury to this week-long camp. Kudos to all that have participated in this program. Our day at the camp was a very spiritual experience and a program that I hope BCER and all our sponsors of the Fire Fighter’s Hose Relay will continue to support in 2016.
