Aspen Valley Hospital

The Aspen Valley Hospital Expansion Master Plan was developed to transform Aspen Valley Hospital into a progressive, outpatient-focused medical center that better serves the growing needs of the community.

The $100 million plan outlines four major phases to remodel and expand the existing 70,000-square-foot, single-story community hospital into a modern, three-story, 200,000-square-foot medical campus. Phases 3 and 4 represent a significant portion of the work, adding approximately 55,000 square feet of new space and renovating an additional 22,000 square feet, for a total of more than $55 million.

BCER provided Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection engineering services for Phase 3, supporting the design of a high-performance facility while helping the project achieve ambitious sustainability goals. A key objective is LEED Silver certification, along with compliance with the City of Aspen’s Canary Initiative, which promotes net-zero carbon construction for all new buildings.

The expansion includes several major clinical and patient-focused spaces, such as a 15,000-square-foot surgery department, 7,000 square feet of outpatient clinics, The Aspen Birthplace, a new patient care unit, cardiac rehabilitation and cardiopulmonary suites, and an orthopedic sports medicine center of excellence. The master plan also accommodates up to 30,000 square feet of medical office space, ensuring the campus can continue to grow and meet evolving healthcare needs.

Through thoughtful engineering and sustainable design strategies, BCER helped Aspen Valley Hospital realize its vision of a forward-thinking medical campus that prioritizes patient experience, environmental responsibility, and long-term community care.
