UNC – West Campus Residence Hall Complex

BCER Engineering provided Mechanical and Electrical engineering services for the programming to replace McCowen Hall with a new housing scheme at the University of Northern Colorado. The original McCowen Hall housed approximately 750 students. Through coordination between the Owner, Architect, and Engineer, the programming documents allowed UNC to solicit design-build teams to meet UNC’s needs and goals allowing the teams to compete for the housing project. BCER, upon completion of the programming, was selected as the Engineer to provide Mechanical and Electrical Design and Construction Administration Services for the new student housing project. The new residential housing complex is divided in to two buildings; the south building is approximately 150,000 square feet on five levels and provides 348 beds while the north building is approximately 155,000 square feet and provides 375 beds on six levels. The West Campus Residence Hall Complex houses 723 students in state-of-the-art suites with each wing including its own lounge, kitchen, laundry room, vending, recycling and study lounge areas. The goal for BCER was to provide UNC with a set of reliable systems that coexist with the building, provide comfort for the occupants, have long-term Life Cycle value (i.e. energy and maintenance) while being designed to a LEED Silver rating and adhering to the ‘Energy Star’ programs.BCER provided Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Services for the programming to replace McCowen Hall with a new housing scheme at the University of Northern Colorado.
