CSU – Morgan Library Renovation
BCER provided Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Services for the interior renovation and Pavilion addition to this central campus library. The total project cost was approximately $11,000,000.The mechanical system in the Pavilion consists of a radiant heating/cooling slab with an airside displacement system for ventilation and supplemental cooling. Because the building was being fully glazed, BCER worked closely with the architect on the high performance glazing selection. The Western exposure of the building utilized electro-chromatic glazing, which tints to reduce the shading coefficient and prevents late afternoon sun in the space. The lighting for the Pavilion consists of linear indirect pendants with 2-lamp super T8 Fluorescent Lamps and high efficiency bi-level dimming ballasts. The lighting is controlled by both ceiling mounted occupancy sensors with manual wall switch overrides and ceiling mounted photocells that will dim lights to 50% if adequate daylight levels are reached. The project achieved LEED silver rating with a projected energy reduction of 20% from the baseline systems.
