McKee Cancer Center

The McKee Cancer Center, part of McKee Medical Center in Loveland, Colorado, was expanded to enhance access to advanced cancer treatment services within the existing hospital campus.

The project included the design of a new 12,000-square-foot, single-level facility integrated into the campus’s existing infrastructure. Because the hospital’s central utilities—including the chilled and hot water plant and main electrical switchgear—serve multiple buildings and provide critical emergency power, careful coordination was required to extend and reconfigure these systems without disrupting ongoing operations.

Delivered in two phases, the first phase included construction of a specialized treatment vault designed to accommodate either a CyberKnife or linear accelerator (LINAC), along with supporting clinical and administrative spaces. The second phase focused on enhancing patient and staff experience through the renovation of the reception area and the addition of offices and a multipurpose room.

BCER provided Mechanical and Electrical engineering services for the $2.5 million addition and renovation, including the reconfiguration of chilled and hot water distribution from the central plant to support the new facility. The completed cancer center features advanced treatment capabilities, including a linear accelerator, as well as treatment rooms and flexible support spaces designed to adapt to evolving patient care needs.

Through careful integration with existing campus systems and a phased construction approach, BCER helped deliver a modernized cancer care facility that supports both advanced technology and a seamless patient experience.
