Denver Union Station
The Denver Union Station Development is a comprehensive project for transportation facilities and transit-orientated development within the area bounded roughly by Wynkoop Street and the Consolidated Main Line (CML), and 15th and 18th Street and commuter rail station and trackwork improvements extending to 23rd Street in Downtown Denver. Through work providing Fire Protection Engineering and Life Safety Consulting services, BCER has found the primary elements of the project include the following: The Regional Bus Terminal is a below grade facility located beneath 17th Street between the Historic Station and relocated Light Rail Train Station near the CML. The Regional Bus Terminal will serve RTD local and regional bus services, the new Downtown Circulator, and potential commercial bus service. The terminal will include 22 bus bays spaced around an enclosed island platform, street-level entrances, and pedestrian connections to the commuter rail and light rail platforms. Dedicated bus ramps will connect the terminal to grade at the intersection of 18th Street and the bus HOV lane, and along the CML to 18th Street. Scope includes modification of the bus HOV lane between 19th and 16th Streets to access the new terminal. The building will be fully sprinklered. The Passenger/Commuter Rail Station is a new eight-track, at-grade commuter rail station between Denver Union Station and Wewatta Street. The station serves proposed RTD Commuter Rail services, and existing Amtrak services. The facility includes station and approach guideways, passenger platforms and seating, grade-separated passenger circulation, a distinctive train hall canopy and pedestrian connections to the historic Denver Union Station building, and to the below-grade bus terminal. The Light Rail Station includes the relocation of the existing light rail station to a new three-track LRT station, with two tracks having platform access, along the east side of the CML between 16th and 19th Streets. The station will include two four-car platforms and tail tracks to accommodate two four-car trains with access to any platform.
