Aurora History Museum

The Aurora History Museum opened its doors in 1979 in a historic building with two small galleries and an office. In 1990, the museum moved to its present location and re-opened in 1991. The museum collects and exhibits artifacts and documents pertaining to the history of Aurora and Colorado.

BCER provided Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing consulting services for this renovation and addition project. A new 1300 sf space for the trolley exhibit, the addition of approximately 825 sf for a workshop, conversion of the area currently used as shop space (approx 460 sf), and upgrading the HVAC for the Community Gallery Room were all included in this scope of work. Additional tasks included:

  • Replacement of All Existing Induction Air Boxes
  • Replacing the Control Valves Associated with the Perimeter Heating System
  • Repairing the Existing Humidification System
  • Expanding the Existing Johnson Controls HVAC Metasys

A new roof-mounted air handling unit sized to serve the addition (Trolley Room and new adjacent spaces) was included in this design. The air handling unit utilizes chilled water and heated water from the central systems serving the building.

A dust collection system was provided for the workshop. The design basis was a small system located within the room that will capture dust at the source, filter the air, and return it to the room.
