DCSD- Stone Canyon Outdoor EDVentures

The Stone Canyon Outdoor Education property has a long history in Colorado, with landmark status. The site has 13 structures that were originally built between 1955-1968. BCER was a subcontractor hired to perform MEP and Fire Protection studies for six buildings on this site – the Base Camp, Liberty, Rose Wilder Hall, Columbine, Lodge, and Thunder Dome (gym). After a review of the studies and recommendations with the project stakeholders, DCSD decided to move forward with the renovations to the Base Camp building, as that was what funding would allow at the time.

BCER provided Fire Protection, Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing consulting services for the new addition, which expanded the existing kitchen, upgraded the kitchen equipment, expanded the existing dining area, and added new restrooms. This new kitchen and dining layout allows the facility to accommodate 120 guests in this remote mountain setting.

In addition to the MEP study, BCER provided a water supply analysis for the
campus. Utilizing this analysis, BCER met with the Larkspur Fire Protection
District (LFPD) and the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control (CDFPC) to review the findings and secure an agreement on what is required at the campus for existing and future fire protection water supply needs. Based upon this agreement, BCER provided documents for water storage tank size, location, installation and underground piping sizes and locations to get water to the existing pump building and any yard hydrants or connections required by LFPD and CDFPC.
