Denver Botanic Gardens – Science Pyramid
BCER Engineering provided mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering for the unique design of the Science Pyramid at the Denver Botanic Gardens. The Science Pyramid was designed to encourage visitors to connect to the natural world by looking at plants through a scientific lens. BCER Engineering’s design, including state-of-the-art LED lighting and an under floor air distribution system, enhances the visitors’ experience as they explore this multi-media, interactive space. BCER Engineering rose to the challenge of discreetly locating the mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems in this architecturally significant building.
Rondinelli Life Safety provided fire protection engineering and performance based solutions to the required fire protection of this unique facility. The building is located in the Botanic Gardens and was not accessible by normal fire department access routes. In working with the Denver Fire Department a modified fire apparatus access route had to be established with minimum requirements for emergency access. The solution included evaluation of the fire department access and creating a fire protection system unique to the size and shape of the glass pyramid. This process was documented through the use of the alternate materials and methods permitted by the Denver Building and Fire Code.
