Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes

University of Colorado’s Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes is a 115,000-sf clinical care/laboratory facility. The facility is located at the UCHSC campus and is one of the largest pediatric diabetes centers in the country. The first two floors of this four-story building serve the clinical care function and are specifically designed around the children and young adults that will benefit from this special facility. The remaining upper two floors are dedicated to research, totaling 52,000 sf of wet laboratory space. The approach for this project was to design and construct the core and shell for each of the four floors of the building, including the tenant build-out of the first and fourth floors. BCER provided Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Design for the project, and construction of this first phase was complete in early 2005. BCER then completed the tenant build-out of the remaining two floors, completing the research and clinical care functions of the center.
